Position Overview

HLC Fabrication is seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Structural Steel Detailer with experience in SDS/2 and AutoCAD to join our growing team. You’ll play a critical role in creating precise shop drawings and structural steel detailing for fabrication and construction projects. This position requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with engineers, fabricators, and project teams to deliver outstanding results.

Key Responsibilities

• Shop Drawings: Create detailed fabrication and erection drawings using SDS/2 and AutoCAD.
• Modeling & Detailing: Develop precise 3D models in SDS/2, ensuring all specifications and connections meet project requirements.
• Collaboration: Partner with engineers, project managers, fabricators, and contractors for clarity and accuracy in designs.
• Design Verification: Cross-check drawings with design codes, standards, and project specifications (e.g., AISC, AWS).
• Problem Solving: Address potential issues during the detailing phase to minimize fabrication and erection errors.
• Document Management: Maintain organized records of drawings, revisions, and project files.
• Compliance: Ensure adherence to building codes, industry standards, and client requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience: Proven experience as a structural steel detailer, preferably in commercial or industrial projects, or a related field.
• Software Proficiency: Expertise in SDS/2 and AutoCAD; familiarity with other software is a plus.
• Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of steel fabrication, welding symbols, connection design, and industry standards (e.g., AISC, AWS).
• Education: Associate’s degree in Drafting, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Detail-Oriented: Exceptional accuracy and commitment to high-quality work.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of additional structural detailing software (e.g., Tekla, Revit).
• Familiarity with BIM workflows and collaboration tools.
• Understanding of material optimization for fabrication.
• Experience in project management or supervisory roles.
